Growing Families in Christ

Sunday School

It is our goal to offer a variety of Christian education opportunities for members and visitors of First United Methodist Church.  We strongly encourage you to find the Class, Small Group, or Bible Study which will both nurture you and challenge you as you grown in your personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
Family Faith Class, 9:15-10:15 am
This class is for children of all ages, their parents, and anyone who desires to connect with young families.  There is no age minimum or maximum in this class. We are all part of God's family and we each bring something special to the table. This class is designed to help your family grow in faith together - not just on Sunday mornings, but throughout the entire week. This class is primarily led by Stefany Simmons, Director of Family Ministries, with the assistance of other loving parents and volunteers.
Each week children are rewarded for their participation, and on the last Sunday of the month they get to shop for fun prizes with their rewards tickets that they have earned!

Youth Class: 9:15-10:15am
6-12th grades meet in the Rec Room, down the hall from church offices. Come join us for Bible study and fellowship as we grow in God's love and learn what it means to follow Christ. Some Sundays this class meets at the beach!  Please watch the "Church Alive" for any changes in the youth meeting place, or contact Wendy Bryan, Youth Coordinator.
Adult Classes, 9:15-10:00 am
New Beginnings Class meets Sunday mornings at 9:15 am in Fellowship Hall 1. Currently they are using the Adult Bible Studies Series. The group is a discussion class that rotates teachers. The average age of people attending this class varies from 50 to 90+, but all are welcome!
Cross- Talk Class meets Sunday mornings at 9:00 a.m. in Education Wing Room 2.  The group is a discussion class that studies different books and rotates teachers. This is a class of maturing disciples seeking to put faith in action.
Younger Adults Class meets Sunday mornings at 9:15 a.m. in the Education Wing Room 3. Adults ages 20's, 30's, 40's are invited to learn about Jesus' life and ministry and engage in interesting discussions.
First Connections Class meets on the second Sunday of each month at 9:15 a.m. in Fellowship Hall 2. Led by Pastor Laura Becker, this is a class where you can come and get connected to some wonderful people in the congregation.  Each month will offer a different focus (i.e. touring church facilities, learning what the different committees in the church do and who's on them, getting to know the FUMC staff, etc.)  It will be a fruitful time of building relationships within the church!
Seeking Facilitators
FUMC is seeking servants of God who are willing to grow in faith and commit to facilitating a small group Bible study or Sunday School class. You don't have to be a Bible scholar to facilitate a study!  There are many studies now that are DVD-based, and as a facilitator you are simply the person who keeps the order of the class and uses the leader guide to lead the group conversations.  If you are prayerfully considering serving in this way, please contact Stefany Simmons at 361-729-1659.
Questions and suggestions are always welcome. Please contact Stefany Simmons.
