First United Methodist Church is a church that believes in Jesus, a church that loves God and people.
The First United Methodist Church (FUMC) of Rockport is a community of faith seeking to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. Our plan for growth is to intentionally focus NOW on areas of ministry described as NURTURE, OUTREACH, and WITNESS.
NURTURE: providing educational, formative, supportive and fellowship activities necessary to incorporate individuals into the Body of Christ. We are to be an inclusive church, growing in the redemptive fellowship of the community and the disciplines of faithful living, that we might become whole together. This involves spiritual work and accountability.
OUTREACH: providing ministries of outreach which further the building of the Kingdom and equip every member to be in ministry for Christ. We are to be a servant church, sharing the grace we have been given and modeling our lives after the One who came to serve that we might be disciples of the Lord.
WITNESS: providing powerful, evangelistic worship which incorporates the historic Wesleyan emphases of Scripture, reason, tradition and the experience of grace. We are to be a worshipping church, offering our lives as a living gift in response to God’s love, accepting Christ as Lord of our lives, and growing in God’s grace, that we might open our hearts to the full presence and power of the living God.

Greetings in Christ!
My name is Frank Baik, and I am a second generation United Methodist pastor. I love the Lord, and I love God’s people. I was born in South Korea, and I immigrated to the US when I was five years old. I grew up mostly in California, then lived in San Antonio for seven years, followed by four years as pastor of Schulenburg First United Methodist Church. In Schulenburg I was a sponsor for the campus ministry, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, served as secretary of the Ministerial Alliance, and was a member of the Lions Club. I also offered a martial arts class in Schulenburg as a ministry of the church.
Before Schulenburg, I served as an assistant manager of a Halfway house for Federal Inmates, a Children’s Director at Helotes Hills, an English Ministry Pastor at Bethel Korean UMC in San Jose, CA, and an Associate at Bell Memorial UMC in Roland Heights, CA.
I am married and have three children. Carol is 15 and a sophomore in High School. Christine is 17 and a sophomore at UT Dallas. Caleb is 21 and a PFC in the Army, stationed in Landsthul Germany. My wife Patty teaches Art, Yearbook, and Graphic Design at the High School, but is looking forward to a break. I also serve with the Army Reserve as a Chaplain (Captain) with the 549th MI Battalion based in San Antonio.
I am a plain preacher for plain people. I preach the Gospel and strive to let the scriptures speak. I will do my best to make sure you learn something important, have a reason to laugh, and have something you can do in response to the word. Because, “the sermon isn’t over until the congregation responds.” My preaching teacher taught, “The best sermon preparation is a life lived in integrity and harmony with God’s word.” But even more important than preaching, I pray that my life and manner would speak the Truth of God. I look forward to meeting all of you, until then, the Lord’s grace sustain you, overflow through you, and bless everyone you touch with your smile.
In the name of Jesus who died, but rose again,
Amen
Frank Baik
